Average Percentage of polling in 2009! Are we looking for the Possible Reasons?

The voting for the third phase of 15th Lok Sabha Election elections is in full swing but we are observing less or less than average polling almost across all the constituencies in the Country. Recent political spates and mudslinging by politicians bear testimony to the downgrading standard of electioneering during the 2009 General Elections compared to the previous one. It is really a matter of concern for the Biggest Democracy of the World. We have seen several Political, Social and Media Campaign to educate and encourage People of India to come forward and Vote. But we are getting odd results! Why is it happening and why are people being so uninterested or is it something else on Indian electorate’s mind his time around? I think there are some serious issues. We have seen subsequent inactiveness and lackadaisical performance of all the ruling governments at the centre on the important issues like Terrorism, Economic Crisis, Corruption, Healthcare, Education and Infrastructure development. India has been grappling these issues for long time now, but this time situation is much more different.

We are facing threat to our security from local insurgents, Naxals and terrorists from our neighboring countries. We have faced ghastly attacks in the recent past but the Central and state Governments have failed to address the issue effectively. We have been witness to the deadliest attack on Mumbai that followed the consequent dirty blame game that politicians have played over it. Apprehensions have been raised on the preparedness of Indian Security forces in dealing with terrorist threats. Politicians have not even spared our valiant soldiers who have fought against the enemy and laid their lives for our country. We have seen an example of worst politics from Democratic Indian Parliamentarians, when they played their game with bundles of rupees in the floor of Lok Sabha. How can we forget the political din and drama displayed Left front on the issue of Atomic Energy Agreement between USA and India. They kept opposing it based on their goddamn logic that it would make India subservient to US tactics.

Other issues that have really bothered Indian electorate are Corruption and Bad Governance. This time we saw some new addition….the security issue of our girls and Young working woman. We have seen belligerence of several right wing Hindu organizations like RSS, Shivsena and Sriramsena, who have used regional issues, cast politics, linguistic factors to divide Indian society once again in the 21st century

Our Political Leaders seem to have stooped so low in the game of vote bank politics that they have not bothered to use Communal Card for getting votes from bewildered Indian Public. It’s such a shame that young and budding politicians like Varun Gandhi made ugly comments on minority communities and threatened fragile communal situation in the UP. Not recently, we have also seen Raj Thackeray played the divisive politics by raking the issue of “Marathi Manus” ( Maharasthrains) and leading a battery of violent protests against “Uttar Bharatya” (People from UP and Bihar) people. And when enough is enough we have Tamil Politics waiting to destroy the wanted peace in the region.

Indian electorate has felt left out by its political class and they have build up deep angst against the Indian Politicians. Common Indian man has felt betrayed time and again by its politicians and is really angry over fake commitments and unfounded promises from them. What we need is leaders with a vision for India and will to serve its masses by keeping their self interests at bay. And, unless we vote to for a change honest and true leaders won’t get a chance to stand up and guide us!
